Floating Ballerina - series no. 4, SOLD unframed, drawing on paper.

This series was inspired by a young woman that lives in Australia who is an underwater dancer. When I first saw her I had no idea what I was looking at. It was so mysterious, she seemed to be floating in air, no air bubbles, nothing around her but space, her body just moving in space.

This experience got me wondering how I might depict her in my artwork. One day, I stumbled across this black & cream colored floral print wallpaper, and I decided I'd paint her on this paper. Big splashes of the red kept running through my mind. I thought about this series for such a long time before actually starting, and eventually decided not to paint her red. However, I got this idea to draw her in graphite, so she would be more integrated within the floral print of the wallpaper instead of sitting on top of the paper like the paint would. The subtlety of the graphite gives these images the same floating sensation when I experienced her for the first time.

Medium: 4H, 2H, and B pencils, layers of gesso on the back to thicken the paper to complete this series.

I’ve become so inspired by her beauty that I wrote this poem about her.

Floating Ballerina - series no. 4

Weightless beauty
Ethereal light
Fluid as a dream
Swirling in delight.

Watery allure
Lingering in space
Spinning like liquid
Ignoring gravity.

Sensual being
Elegance exudes
Twirl that pirouette
Within the open pool.

Slumberous Garden Nymph, $15,600 framed in white, 42” x 54”, This piece is available for purchase at Art on Main Gallery.

The drawing of this artichoke began during the Covid-19 outbreak in early July of 2020. It took 4 months, 103 drawing hours on Coventry rag paper. The media is graphite and acrylic. The art is 38x50 and will soon be framed. I have always hidden some things in my drawings and this one is no exception. She is easy to find and sleeping under a leaf. This artichoke was planted in my garden the fall of 2019. The top artichoke was harvested, brought home and photographed on my kitchen counter and she became my muse for this drawing. This was her first year to bloom and not eatable but she became the most majestic plant in the community garden, with over 17 artichokes that had extraordinary purple blooms. Once the blooms had dried, a video was co-created with a friend titled the Flight of an Artichoke Seed. You can see that under the video section of my website. This piece is available for purchase at Art on Main Gallery.

“The artichoke symbolizes lovingly speaking your truth to increasing lightness. During these times of uncertainty and chaos (Covid) we have found that expressing ourselves in ways that are more authentic provide a means to process emotions. This film was birthed from a love of gardening and healing time with nature- it’s an opportunity for the viewer to step into a peaceful place.”

Pink Jacks, SOLD framed in white, measures 54” x 42”, a conversation between lovers.

Zebras are bold and confident. In animal totem medicine, the zebra brings clarity of memory, and the power of individuality and balance. I placed the two heads facing one another to suggest a dialogue between them. The jacks are painted in neon colors signify a playful dialogue between the two.

“Art is the conversation between lovers.
Art offers an opening for the heart.
True art makes the divine silence in the soul
Break into applause.

Art is, at last, the knowledge of
Where we are standing –
Where we are standing
In this Wonderland
When we rip off all our clothes
And this blind man's patch, veil,
That got tied across our brow.

Art is the conversation between lovers.

True art awakes the Extraordinary Ovation.”
